A work to rule protest took place at Schull Community Hospital, Co Cork, today by ten nurses who are part of the Irish Nurses' Organisation (INO).

The hour and a half long protest was due to a failure by the HSE to implement nationally agreed hours for nursing at the hospital, the union said.

"Our members are not prepared to be continuously overlooked by the HSE. They have worked together to agree a flexible, innovative and patient centred roster and the HSE has vetoed implementation," INO industrial relations officer Patsy Doyle said.

From 11.30am until 1pm clerical duties were not be carried out by nurses, but the union said this action would not impact on patient care.
