Dr Ananth Pullela returned to his home in Newport, Co Tipperary, earlier this week after having been in a critical condition in the intensive care unit of Cork University Hospital.
The 55-year-old suffered serious stab wounds in an incident at St Anne's day hospital in Limerick on January 17th last.
His colleague, clinical psychologist Dr Catherine Burns (64) was also injured, however, she was released from hospital the following day. A 31-year-old Limerick man is in custody on charges connected to the incident. Speaking to the Limerick Leader newspaper this week, Dr Pullela's wife explained that her husband was resting and was not well enough to speak to the media.
"We would like to express our sincere thanks to every one of our friends and the people of Limerick for their kindness, concern and support since the incident," explained Ms Pullela.
Originally from India, Dr Pullela moved to Ireland with his family in 2006. He was previously headhunted by Australian officials to work with the country's most notorious sex offenders.
