Geordan Murphy will miss Ireland's Six Nations clash with Scotland after picking up medial ligament damage in Saturday's 45-11 defeat to England, it was confirmed today.

The Leicester wing was forced off after just seven minutes of the Twickenham clash and left the ground on crutches.

Medics feared he had torn the ligaments, which would have ruled him out of Ireland's plans for the remainder of the tournament.

But IRFU spokesman Malachy Quinn today revealed the damage was not as bad as originally feared. "He was on crutches after the game and we feared he would be out for up to six weeks with torn ligaments. But we are hoping it is not as bad and he should be out for three to four weeks".
