The Dublin Chamber of Commerce announced yesterday that it is to launch a major marketing campaign in the US to promote Ireland as a destination for the business and tourist traveller, and counteract the negative effects of the foot-and-mouth scare.
The Dublin Chamber will work through the US Chamber of Commerce to get the message out that Ireland is "open for business".
The Dublin Chamber of Commerce is also using the Irish Chambers of Commerce in the US to promote the message.
"The US is one of our most important markets, with huge potential for growth," Dublin Chamber of Commerce chief executive Ms Gina Quinn said.
"We are aware how quickly scare stories can spread, particularly in relation to a disease such as this. If these are not counteracted, our tourist industry could face huge losses in the coming peak season," she said.
"Our intention is to be positive, and to encourage the greatest number of visitors to Ireland from the US this year," she added.
The initiative comes in the period of early holiday bookings and is designed to encourage business and tourist travellers to visit Ireland.
