Industrial production rose by 6.3 per cent in the three months between March and May, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office.
Production for all manufacturers in May was 2.2 per cent higher than in May 2002. The "modern" sector - mostly comprising foreign-owned IT and chemical firms - had an annual increase in production for May 2003 of 2.9 per cent,
A slight decrease of 0.2 per cent was recorded in the "traditional" sectors.
Industrial turnover for manufacturing industries was up 4 per cent in the three-month period March to May 2003 when compared with the preceding three-month period.
