The family behind one of Britain's best-known Indian food companies is so torn apart by feuding over money that only "ill will and resentment" remain, the High Court in London heard today.
The depth of the rift between members of the Patak spices and curry pastes dynasty was revealed in a letter read out as part of the ongoing courtroom battle between its head and his two sisters.
Anila Shastri and Chitralekha Mehta claim they are owed a share of the multi-million pound business empire founded by their father Laxminshanker Pathak more than 40 years ago.
Mrs Shastri (52), is suing her brother Mr Kirit Pathak (51), and his company Worldwing Investments Ltd, and their mother Shantaguary Pathak, for the value of shares she once owned in the business. Mrs Mehta (56), is only suing Mr Pathak and his company.
The pair say they are the victims of Hindu culture in which male inheritance is still customary and women are treated unequally.
