New Delhi - India was preparing yesterday to intervene in neighbouring war-torn Sri Lanka by helping in the evacuation of around 30,000 trapped government troops, military equipment and possibly even civilians as Tamil Tigers rebels moved steadily forward to retake the northern Jaffna peninsula, Rahul Bedi reports. Officials in Delhi declared that the evacuation process would begin only after both warring sides declared a ceasefire as India would not risk walking into a war zone.
