The fuel allowance is to increase from £5 to £7.06 a week from January 1st, the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs has announced. The increase will affect an estimated 294,000 people, including pensioners, those on long-term unemployment payments and lone parents.
The allowance is paid for 29 weeks a year.
