A round-up of today's other stories in brief.
Man convicted of drive-by shooting
A convicted gunman has been found guilty by a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court jury of a non-fatal drive-by shooting at two of his neighbours in Ballymun two years ago.
Derek Devoy (24), Balbutcher Drive, Ballymun, Dublin, currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for firearms offences, was found guilty of possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life at Cranogue Close on September 19th, 2005. He had pleaded not guilty.
Judge Patricia Ryan remanded him in custody for sentencing next month. Evidence was given of how Devoy was recognised when a scarf slipped from his face after he shot at the two men from a car which then drove away at speed.
Victoria McElligott told prosecuting counsel, Mary Rose Gearty, that she identified Devoy whom she knew "all my life" as the gunman who fired the shots at her brothers, Eugene and John Paul, from the back seat of the speeding car as they stood outside their home on Cranogue Close.
Gardaí treating fire as suspicious
Gardaí in Athlone, Co Westmeath, are treating as suspicious a fire which broke out at a house on Retreat Road in the town at about 2am yesterday.
Nobody was in the house at the time. The scene has been preserved for a technical examination. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Athlone Garda station.
Teenager in court over car chase
A 16-year-old schoolboy, who was in a stolen car that rammed a Garda car and nearly hit pedestrians when it raced around Dublin city centre, has been remanded on bail for sentencing.
The south Dublin teenager had pleaded guilty at the Children's Court to travelling as a passenger in a stolen car on March 4th.
Garda Tim O'Keeffe of Pearse Street Garda station told the court that a stolen car "went through a set of red lights speeding away from gardaí.
"It continued to Grand Parade overtaking five stationary cars that were stopped at lights. The car turned on to Leeson Street and went around St Stephen's Green on to Dawson Street where they drove at speed causing people to jump out of their way."
At the Dawson Street junction with Nassau Street, the stolen car broke another red light "causing more pedestrians to jump clear". They then rammed a Garda car before coming to a stop.
Judge Ann Ryan remanded the teenager on bail to appear again next month.
