Complaints over fleadh radio ad

A radio advertisement created to promote the Munster Fleadh Cheoil, which is being held in Kenmare this week, has created controversy in Kerry with listeners confusing the word "sets" with "sex".

John Greene, a presenter with Radio Kerry, says the radio has had "an unmerciful amount" of text messages and calls about the advertisement, but only about half are complaints. Other calls are defending the ad and see it "as a bit of a laugh".

The ad's creator is Nick Ryan, public relations officer for the fleadh. Mr Ryan said he deliberately tried to liven up news of the fleadh cheoil, but apologised if the ad caused any offence.

Bids to repossess homes 'rising'

There has been a sharp increase in the number of applications to the Circuit Court for the repossession of houses in Donegal by financial institutions.

According to a number of sources, the local court has received more than 20 "ejectment files" from solicitors acting on behalf of financial institutions this year.

This process is said to be a "last resort" used by mortgage lenders to recover debts owed by householders who have fallen behind with repayments.

If a judge grants an ejectment, the lender can formally apply to have the house or land repossessed.

According to a court source, there was only one repossession granted in Donegal last year. However, a member of the legal profession told the Donegal News yesterday there had been a sharp increase in the number of lenders applying for repossessions.
