Man remanded again on Collins murder charge

A 23-year-old man charged with the murder of Limerick businessman Roy Collins (35) has been further remanded in custody until next month.

James Dillon, of no fixed abode but originally from the south side of Limerick city, is charged with the murder at Coincastle Amusements, Roxboro Shopping Centre, Limerick, on April 9th last.

Judge Tom O’Donnell remanded the accused in continuing custody until May 20th next.

22-year-old for manslaughter trial

A 22-year-old man has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court in connection with the death of a Limerick man last year.

James Kelly, St Francis John House, Ballingarde, Ballyneety, Co Limerick is charged with the manslaughter of Mike Cronin (41) at Hyde Road on May 11th last. Mr Cronin died on June 8th last at Cork University Hospital after an alleged assault.

Judge Tom O’Donnell noted that the accused had not taken up bail, which was previously granted on his own bond of €500 and an independent surety of €2,500. He was ordered to forfeit his travel documents.

Judge O’Donnell remanded him in custody with consent to bail, to appear before the current sessions of the Central Criminal Court.

Two appear over Strokestown raid

Two Dublin men have been remanded on continuing bail over a robbery at a pharmacy in Co Roscommon last month.

Robert Dempsey (27), Earl Court, Ruben Street, Dublin, and Anthony Dowling (34), Barnamore Park, Finglas, appeared at Strokestown District Court yesterday, charged with entering as a trespasser and burglary at Sheehan’s Pharmacy, Bridge Street, Strokestown on March 27th.

Judge Browne remanded the two on continuing bail to appear before Strokestown District Court on May 27th.

As part of the inquiry into the raid, gardaí from Roscommon searched a number of premises in Dublin, at one of which they recovered a gold lunula – a crescent shaped necklace dating back 4,000 years to pre-Celtic times.

Charges of assault on St Patrick’s Day

Two men charged with assaulting a number of people in Tipperary town on St Patrick’s Day have been remanded in custody.

Ned Delaney (21) of Carrowclough, Tipperary, and Patrick O’Keeffe of St Ailbe’s Drive, Tipperary, appeared before Tipperary District court yesterday.

Mr Delaney is charged with three counts of assault causing harm and two counts of assault on Main Street and Kickham Place in the town on March 17. He is accused of three breaches of the Public Order Act in the town on the same date.

Mr O’Keeffe is charged with assault and with assault causing harm on Main Street in the town on St Patrick’s Day.

Both were remanded in custody to appear at Tipperary District Court on May 6th.

Three other men, Dan Delaney (18) and Jimmy Delaney (23) of Carrowclough, and John Paul Delaney (18) of Upper Abbey Street, Cahir, also appeared in the court yesterday charged with assault causing harm in the town on the day.

The three were remanded on bail to appear at Tipperary District Court on June 3rd.
