Woman rescued from mountain
A 73-year-old Canadian woman was airlifted by a rescue helicopter to Mayo General Hospital, Castlebar, yesterday after falling near the summit of Croagh Patrick.
The woman, who had been accompanied by her husband on the climb, sustained lower leg injuries and was suffering from slight hypothermia when a first response unit from Mayo Mountain Rescue reached her in the afternoon.
Man held over death of woman released
A man arrested regarding the death of a woman babysitting her sister's newborn infant, was released without charge yesterday, writes Ciaran Murphy
Gardaí found Co Tipperary woman Brenda Ahern dead, after suffering serious head injuries, at about 2.30am on Wednesday.
The man was released yesterday morning without charge.
Threat to Donegal mayor over memorial
Gardaí are investigating threats against the Mayor of Donegal and his family, including his six-month-old daughter. The threats are understood to be linked to Mayor Brendan Byrne’s call for a memorial marking the death of Lord Louis Mountbatten 30 years ago.
One of the threats was an e-mail message to the council offices at Drimlonagher, Donegal
town. One message, delivered within the past three weeks, also threatened the life of his wife Carmel and their baby, Silvia. Gardaí at Glenties are investigating.
