Highland show rapist may have been Irish

A man who raped a teenage girl at the Royal Highland Show near Edinburgh last weekend may have been Irish.

The victim told detectives that the man may have spoken with an Irish accent, but could not say if he was from the North or South, according to Lothian and Borders police.

The 17 year old was assaulted some time between 12.30 and 1am at Ingliston showground between the east caravan park and a marquee where a Young Farmers Ball was taking place.

The suspect is described as white, mid-to-late 20s, between 5ft 9in and 5ft 10in and of stocky build. – (PA)

Barcelona council consider U2 fine

Spanish authorities might fine U2 for playing too long and loudly during rehearsals for their latest Barcelona show, the city council said yesterday.

The city said one of its districts received a formal complaint by residents about the band playing after the permitted 10pm.

Regional newspaper El Punt said the band had rehearsed until midnight at sound levels measured at 70 decibels – the equivalent of a vacuum cleaner at 1m (3ft). – (AP)

Man arrested in murder inquiry

Gardaí in Limerick have arrested a second man as part of their investigation into the murder of James Cronin in April 2008.

The man was arrested in Limerick on Wednesday and can be held for up to a week.

The body of Mr Cronin (20) was found by gardaí half buried in a field at Caledonian Park.

A subsequent postmortem by State Pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy concluded that he died from a single shotgun wound to his head.
