Gardaí arrest 25 people and seize two dozen cars at Kerry motor rally
Up to 25 people have been arrested and almost two dozen cars confiscated during a major annual motor rally centred in Killarney, Co Kerry, this weekend.The rally, one of the major events on the motoring calendar, now in its 31st year, also drew large numbers of so-called boy and girl racers.
The Ordnance Survey Rally of the Lakes, headquartered at the Gleneagle Hotel, took place over mid-Kerry, Killarney and north Cork on Saturday and yesterday of the bank holiday weekend.
It drew thousands to the tourist town. Residents complained of noise and litter with revving of cars and hand-brake turns around the town into the early hours on Friday and Saturday.
Gardaí mounted a large operation on the Cork-Kerry border after dozens of so-called boy and girl racers congregated.
Five units of the Garda traffic corps were deployed to the area on Saturday night.
Most of the arrests were for public order issues, Sgt Ray Walsh of Killarney said.
Man charged with firing shots at house
A man has appeared in Tullamore District Court charged with recklessly firing a firearm in the town.
Stephen Murphy (26), Arden View, Tullamore, Co Offaly, is accused of firing two shots from a shotgun into the door of a house in Tullamore on April 26th. He faces a further charge of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.
