Paternity fraud charge for man with 55 children

PARIS – A man who registered 55 children by 55 different mothers faces up to 10 years in jail and fines for suspected paternity fraud, as well as for helping to obtain residency under false pretences, police said yesterday. The 54-year-old was arrested in a raid which yielded documents showing more than 50 people registered at that address. – (Reuters)

Gas line blast death toll rises to four

SAN FRANCISCO - The death toll rose to four yesterday in the gas line explosion that tore through a neighbourhood in a San Francisco suburb and razed 38 homes.
