The lives of 66 football fans killed in one of Britain's worst sporting
tragedies are to be remembered at a special service tomorrow.
British football was left stunned on January 2nd 1971 when a crush on the terraces at the end of a Rangers-Celtic game at Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow left the fans dead.
A service will be held at Ibrox and a bronze memorial statue will be unveiled as a permanent reminder.
The attendance at matches across Scotland will observe a minute's silence in memory of the fans. Survivors and relatives were due to gather at Ibrox at 3 p.m.
Two other disasters at Ibrox were also being marked tomorrow.
In 1902 25 people fell to their deaths at a Scotland-England match when wooden terraces collapsed. In 1961 two died and 60 were hurt in a crush on the same stairway. PA
