Renewed disturbances were reported in North Belfast overnight with petrol bombs being thrown at a number of houses in the Whitewell area.

A spokesperson for the Police Service of Northern Ireland said the areas attacked included a house on Serpentine Road where a Catholic family home was damaged in an early morning attack.

Police said the area remained tense and there was a strong security force presence to try and prevent the situation boiling over.
