SENATORS on all sides of the House yesterday expressed sympathy with the parents of the children murdered in Dunblane and expressed their horror at the blood bath.

Mr John Dardis (PD) condemned RTE's lunchtime radio coverage of the dreadful events, saying there was a certain amount of voyeurism involved. An attempt had been made to trawl for details which were clearly not available at the time, he said. "I did not find it very edifying." The terrible reality was that at least 12 children had been slain.

The Seanad leader, Mr Maurice Manning, expressed sympathy with the families of the young victims. It was almost inconceivable that such horror, so brutal and mindless, could unfold in a small Scottish town. "Our hearts go out to the parents affected."

The acting Fianna Fail leader Mr Michael Finneran, said the deed had obviously been carried out by a deranged person, but that was small consolation to those who had been left grieving.
