Houlihan funeral on Wednesday
The funeral of renowned sports journalist Con Houlihan will take place on Wednesday, it was announced today.
The 86-year-old died at St James's Hospital in Dublin on Saturday morning after a long illness.
His funeral Mass takes place at noon on Wednesday in Saint Kevin's Church, Harrington Street, Dublin 8 and at 2pm in Mount Jerome Crematorium.
He enjoyed a career in journalism spanning more than 60 years. Houlihan made his name in the Evening Press and was heartbroken when the Irish Press Group closed in 1995. In 2010, he was given an All Ireland Inspirational Life award for his 'unique and vocal insight into all aspects of Irish society'.
Scores of tributes have been paid to a man, a native of Castleisland, Co Kerry, who started in national journalism only when aged 46 but came to be regarded as one of the greatest and the best-loved Irish sports journalist of all.
