The Western Health Board is investigating an outbreak of salmonella at the Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar. According to the board, 16 staff, and patients were affected. They developed gastro intestinal symptoms before Christmas. Tests showed salmonella infection. With investigations continuing, visitor access to affected patients is restricted.
