A HOMELESS man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing in Tallaght, Dublin, at the weekend.
John Murdoch (23) died after he was injured near a shop in Cushlawn Dale early on Saturday morning.
He had been drinking with friends in a house on Friday night and he went to a shop at Cushlawn Dale to buy beer.
Outside the shop, he became involved in a dispute and was struck with a knife which penetrated his heart.
Mr Murdoch was taken by ambulance to Tallaght hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Thomas Kinsella (32) was arrested on Monday night at a hostel on St James’s Street, in Dublin city centre, where he had been living.
Det Garda Camon Ryan told Judge Denis McLoughlin at Dublin District Court yesterday that Mr Kinsella was “arrested for the murder of John Murdoch on August 27th, contrary to common law”.
“He had nothing to say in reply to the charge,” Det Garda Ryan said.
He asked for the defendant, who was wearing a grey hooded top, white runners and black trousers, to be remanded in custody.
Defence solicitor Pádraig O’Donovan applied for legal aid.
The judge noted Det Garda Ryan had no objection and granted legal aid to the defendant.
The judge remanded Mr Kinsella in custody to appear again at Cloverhill District Court on September 6th.
