The road death toll for the August bank holiday weekend could be 12, and not 11, as previously thought. Gardai believe that a 21-year-old man from Ballina, Co Mayo, who died in a car crash at Ballykerran near Athlone and whose body was found at 1.30 p.m. yesterday, could have remained undiscovered overnight.

This may be confirmed by a post-mortem today.

Meanwhile, the body of a woman who drowned was discovered at around 1 a.m. yesterday in shallow sea near Courtown, Co Wexford. Ms Tracey Kinsella (22), Cool graney, Co Wexford, went for a swim at Ardamine beach on Monday evening. A friend raised the alarm when she got into difficulty at about 11 p.m., a garda said.
