CANCER PATIENTS in the southeast can avail of a series of free talks by specialists covering various aspects of their treatment, care and recovery as well as how best their families can support them.
The talks will look at areas such as radiotherapy, chemotherapy, the psychological impact of cancer on patients and their families, nutrition and patient advocacy as well as the role of therapies such as reflexology and massage.
Entitled ‘Conas atá tú?” the series of seven lectures begins at 5.30pm today at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Whitfield Cancer Centre on the Cork Road in Waterford. This centre opened in 2006 and provides treatment for private and public patients.
Announcing details of the programme of talks, Catriona McDonald, chief radiotherapist, UPMC Whitfield Cancer Centre, said they were an attempt to help comprehensively address the questions patients and families have after a diagnosis.
