SCHOOLDAYS HANDBOOK: Bullying, school gate temper tantrums and making new friends at school are some of the issues tackled in a new book, Ready for School, which is aimed at parents of school-going children.
The authors,Geraldine O'Brien and Margaret Horan, are two primary school teachers with 60 years' experience between them. Offering sound advice, based on their tried and tested practices, it also includes real case studies. It is published by Veritas and costs €8.95.
HEALTHY SCHOOL LUNCHES: As children across the country return to school, the Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute (INDI) is urging schools to put in place healthy eating policies. The INDI is also calling on the Department of Education to put adequate funding in place for schools to purchase PE equipment so that they do not accept "freebies" from food companies.
