PERTH – British foreign secretary William Hague yesterday urged Commonwealth countries to end discrimination against homosexuals and abolish capital punishment.

On the eve of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth, Australia, Mr Hague called for the organisation to do more to promote human rights. Most Commonwealth nations continue to punish homosexuality and about half retain the death penalty. – (PA)
