Tommy Haas reached his second Grand Slam semi-final with a four-set win over unseeded Chilean Marcelo Rios at the Australian Open in Melbourne today.
The seventh seed German, the highest remaining seed in the tournament, defeated former finalist Rios, 7-6 (7/2), 6-4, 6-7 (2/7), 7-6 (7/5) in three hours 17 minutes and will now play tournament favourite and ninth seed Marat Safin of Russia on Friday.
Haas played in his first semi-final against eventual champion Yevgeny Kafelnikov here in 1999.
