Tehran - Gunmen opened fire on the Tehran headquarters of Iran's leading moderate party, wounding up to three people amid a wave of factional violence that has marred the run-up to today's landmark elections.
Several bursts of automatic weapon fire riddled the northern Tehran offices of the Executives of Construction Party just 48 hours before the Islamic republic's first-ever municipal elections, which promise to be a showdown between hardliners and reformist supporters of President Mohammad Khatami.
The party condemned the "terrorist" attack and pledged that "the way led by President Khatami will not be blocked by such acts".
