The Government must stand up to employer groups opposed to the introduction of a national minimum wage, says the Workers' Party trade union group. The group chairman, Mr Michael Finnegan, said the party welcomed the Government's commitment.
"Greedy and selfish pressure groups must not be allowed to destroy a measure that would ease the poverty situation that many thousands of workers find themselves trapped in," he said. Mr Finnegan called for a minimum wage of at least £4.50p an hour.
