A new stadium planned for Shamrock Rovers soccer club at Tallaght, Co Dublin, is set to proceed after the High Court was told yesterday that a local community school had withdrawn objections to the scheme.

An Bord Pleanala had cleared the way for the development after it upheld the granting of planning permission by South Dublin County Council. However, Mr Frank McCarthy, on behalf of the Old Bawn Community School, Tallaght, then initiated a High Court challenge to the Bord's decision.

Yesterday, Ms Nuala Butler, counsel for An Bord Pleanala, told Mr Justice Lavan that legal proceedings issued on behalf of the community school were being withdrawn. This meant the planning permission stood.
