A teenage girl got so intoxicated that she did not remember getting arrested for being drunk and disorderly and in breach of the peace, a court heard yesterday.
The 17-year-old girl pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children's Court to being intoxicated in a public place and also admitted to a connected offence of a breach of the peace at a Finglas housing estate on December 18th last. She has no recollection of her arrest or the incident and first learned about it when she received a summons.
Garda Jim McDevitt, of Finglas station, said that the girl has been with a group of drunken youths. When cautioned to leave the area she became extremely abusive. "She was arrested for her safety more than anything else," the garda told Judge Catherine Murphy.
She was then arrested and taken to the Garda station. The girl, who is on a Fás course and has no previous convictions, told the court: "I can't remember it. I did not know I was getting a summons." Judge Murphy adjourned the case until July 11th to allow for a probation report on the girl to be given to the court.
