A 15-year-old girl who claimed she was sexually assaulted by two men while on her way to school has admitted to gardaí she made the story up.
She claimed two men had taken her down a laneway near Eyre Square in Galway city and assaulted her and that she escaped after kicking one of the men and running away.
Gardaí began an investigation and appealed for information from the public.
Yesterday, however, the girl told the gardaí she fabricated the whole story.
