Three young men were killed when the car in which they were travelling hit an ESB pole near Sutton Cross in north Dublin early this morning.

They were named today as Peter O'Rourke (18), Lentist Lawns, The Donahies, Donaghmede, Anthony Murphy (18) of Beverton Grove, Donabate and Aston Ryan (21) of Grangemore Crescent, Donaghmede.

The crash, which happened on the Dublin Road at around 3.50 a.m., killed two passengers instantly. There were no other cars involved.

Three others were rushed to Beaumont hospital, where one died shortly afterwards.

One man remains in a serious condition while the driver of the car is being treated for less severe injuries.

It is understood the three victims were close friends.Gardaí at Howth (Tel: 6664900) are appealing for witnesses to the accident. The car involved was a 01-D blue Nissan Micra.
