The woman (57), named locally as Ms Ann Logan, was found lying outside her home in Mohill at around 8.30 a.m. by a neighbour.

It is believed she was lying outdoors all night. She was taken to Sligo General Hospital where she died at about 3 p.m. A post mortem is under way at the hospital to establish the cause of death.

Garda Insp Liam Fletcher said: "She had wounds to her body, but we don't know if she died from her injuries or from hypothermia, but we are investigating every possibility".

Insp Fletcher confirmed the woman's dogs were taken away when gardaí cordoned off the scene to allow for a forensic examination. A suggestion that the wounds were inflicted by her dogs is one possibility being examined.
