Five Romanian men who jumped from a container lorry near Youghal, Co Cork, yesterday were detained by gardai after a five-hour search.
They jumped from a container which had been brought to Rosslare by ferry. It was picked up by a Munster-based lorry driver, who was unaware of the human cargo until he saw the men jumping out and fleeing when he stopped on the west Waterford side of Youghal bridge at 10.45 a.m.
Gardai were alerted and immediately began a search for a number of people described as of eastern European appearance.
