Gardaí have deported 25 illegal immigrants back to their home countries of Monrovia and Romania.

The eastern European nationals were put on a plane in Dublin at 3pm following a joint operation between Gardaí and the British immigration authorities.

The flight will stop at Stansted airport to pick up a further ten illegal immigrants from the UK before proceeding on to Romania.

Gardaí confirmed that officers from the National Immigration Bureau were accompanying the foreign nationals on the flight - as is standard practice - but they refused to divulge further details.
