GARDAI in Dublin carried out a forensic examination yesterday of a car involved in a shooting incident in which two men were injured on Sunday.
The shooting took place at Hardwicke Street in the north inner city at 10.25 p.m. shortly after a man carrying a bag was seen to be acting suspiciously outside Rory O'Connor House flats, according to a Garda spokeswoman.
The man encountered some youths who were standing outside the flats. "He approached the group of youths and discharged a full-length double-barrelled shotgun," the spokeswoman said.
One of the men, aged 24, received gunshot pellets in his right knee but was not seriously injured. The other, aged 20, took a full blast in the lower left ankle. Gardai said his injuries were serious but not life-threatening. Both men were taken by ambulance to the Mater Hospital.
The assailant escaped in a car which was later found abandoned in Greville Lane. It was removed to Store Street Garda station for forensic testing.
