Gardai are awaiting further tests on the body of a woman found in Tralee, Co Kerry yesterday morning.

Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster is carrying out tests on Ms Elizabeth McCarthy (30), whose body was discovered in a tidal stream at Kearney's Bridge, some two miles west of Tralee, by a passer-by walking his dog.

Gardaí are treating the death of the mother of three as suspicious.

Ms McCarthy (30), married and a member of the settled Traveller community, had not been seen since Monday last when she attended a cousin's wedding at the Earl of Desmond Hotel in Tralee.

It is understood there appeared to be injuries to the body which was found in the water of the Finglas stream, between Tralee and the village of Blennerville. The stream is tidal and can reach considerable depths.
