Garda∅ in Limerick are looking for a motive behind a shooting incident on Saturday night in which a group of youths was injured.

An appeal for witnesses to come forward was made after a gunman wearing a balaclava discharged two rounds from a shotgun at four teenagers who were standing outside a house in Delmege Park, Moyross, at 10 p.m.

None of the four was seriously wounded. They were discharged from Limerick Regional Hospital early yesterday after being treated for gunshot pellet wounds.

No link has been found to any of a number of feuds between rival families in the city.

An 18-year-old, the apparent target of the attack, received wounds to his chest and arm. The three others, two of whom are aged 13 and one aged 12, received leg wounds.

Supt Tony Kennelly, of Henry Street Garda station, said no clear motive had been established for the attack.

The gunman made his escape on foot. House to house inquiries and a number of searches were carried out yesterday. The father of one of the teenagers called for more Garda patrols in the area.
