Gardaí in Dublin say they are “very concerned” for the safety of a man who was assaulted and kidnapped in the north inner city on Thursday.

The 26-year-old was chased by a group of men on Russell Avenue, East Wall, at about 4.45pm before being beaten and bundled into a black Volkswagen Golf, which was driven away at speed. Witnesses said the car had a 05D registration with a rear spoiler, spoked wheels and tinted windows. It was in the “boy racer” style, a Garda spokesman said.

Anyone who may have seen the occupants of such a car acting suspiciously on or near Russell Avenue at that time, or who may have seen the car later, has been asked to contact Store Street gardaí at 01-6668089, or the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666111.
