Gardaí investigating the death of Dublin man Derek O'Toole have tonight appealled for the occupants of a car to come forward.

Derek O'Toole died when he was hit by a car driven by an off-duty garda in Lucan on Sunday morning.

Gardai said said there were indications that Mr O'Toole (24), of Shancastle, Clondalkin, was "lying on the ground" when he was hit.

"There is no evidence to suggest that he had been assaulted or that any other vehicle was involved. The incident is classified as a fatal road traffic collision," a Garda Press Office statement issued on Tuesday said.
