Gardaí investigating the murder of Longford woman Sharon Coughlan have again appealed for information from anyone who may have seen her before her body was discovered on Saturday night.

Ms Coughlan was 5ft 3in in height, with shoulder length black hair, and was wearing a black tracksuit with white stripes.

Gardaí particularly want to hear from anyone who may have noticed anything unusual in the St Mel's Road and Temple-michael Terrace area of the town, near the rear entrance to the Tesco car park, between noon and 10pm on Saturday.

Ms Coughlan (37), originally from Britain, was found strangled in the downstairs bathroom of a house in Longford just a few doors away from where she lived with her two children, aged 10 and five, and her partner. She had lived in Longford for more than 20 years.

The house had been vacant in recent weeks but was previously rented, and gardaí have talked to a number of people who lived there, and had keys to the premises, over the past year.

Clumps of hair and blood were found at the scene on Great Water Street where Ms Coughlan's body was discovered by the owner of the house shortly after 9pm on Saturday. The bathroom door had been locked from the outside. The owner had called to prepare the house for new tenants.
