A 27-year-old man died when his car hit the back of a truck at Graiguerush, Kilmacthomas, Co Waterford at 7.15am. Graham Norris of Bramble Hill, Leamybrien, Co Waterford, was prounounced dead at the scene.

Gardai in Bantry have named a 77-year-old man who was killed in an accident in Scart Baun at 10.50 last night. Daniel Cotter of Coolmountain, Dunmanway, Co Cork died when the vehicle he was travelling in was in a collision with another vehicle.

The victim of hit-and-run collision in Meath was named earlier as 30-year-old Ciarán Mallon of Killyfaddy Road, Co Armagh.

Mr Mallon was killed when he was struck by a passing vehicle as he alighted from his cab.

The incident happened at Bracetown, Clonee shortly after 9.30pm last night.

The vehicle was travelling north towards Navan at the time.

A total of 307 people have died on the State's roads so far this year.
