Gardaí investigating the stabbing of a French woman in Dublin this week are considering making the CCTV footage public in an attempt to catch the attacker.

The student (23) is in a Dublin hospital with multiple injuries, although these are not life threatening. She has been in Dublin for around two years, studying marketing at the Dublin Institute of Technology.

She was attacked as she went into her apartment block in the city centre on Tuesday evening. Gardaí sealed off the scene at Bertram Court in the Christchurch area in a search for clues.

It is understood the woman's attacker was waiting for her at the entrance of the apartment block and that she may have been deliberately singled out.

The woman was found in the stairwell of the apartment block. She had been stabbed in the hands and arms and also had a number of wounds on her back. It is understood her attacker made an attempt to slit her throat.

The emergency services were called and she was rushed to St James's Hospital. A spokeswoman for the hospital said the woman's condition this morning was "stable".

A Garda spokesman has said the woman's family has arrived from France.

Gardaí from Kevin Street have appealed for anybody with information to come forward. They can be contacted on (01) 6669400.
