Gardaí are investigating death of a 53-year-old man following an altercation in Drogheda last week.

Gardaí are investigating death of a 53-year-old man following an altercation in Drogheda last week.

The man was pronounced dead in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, yesterday afternoon.

Last Thursday he was involved in a row with a number of young people in the Co Louth town.

Gardaí were called to the scene of the incident at Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street, Drogheda, at about 2.30pm on Thursday.

The man was admitted to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, on Sunday and was later taken to Beaumont Hospital.

The State Pathologist was notified of his death. A postmortem is due to take place at Dublin city morgue this afternoon.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident, particularly anyone who was in the Bessexwell Lane and Shop Street area of Drogheda town on Thursday afternoon.

Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
