Gardaí appeal over robbery

Gardaí in Pearse Street in Dublin are investigating a robbery at a post office on Merrion Row in the city this morning.

Gardaí in Pearse Street in Dublin are investigating a robbery at a post office on Merrion Row in the city this morning.

The robbery occurred at about 10am when a lone male entered the post office. He was in possession of a firearm and threatened staff and stole a substantial sum of money.

There were no injuries.

The suspect then walked to a nearby hotel from where he got into a light blue coloured Skoda taxi. The taxi drove up Merrion Street and turned right onto Baggot Street.

The suspect is described as being nearly 50 with an English accent and of heavy build. He was wearing glasses, a dark jacket and hat.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man fitting the description acting suspiciously around Merrion Row and Merrion Street and are parituclarly appealing to the taxi driver who picked him up to contact them in Pearse Street on 01 6669000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
