Gardaí today released a man who was being questioned over the shooting of a man in Finglas yesterday.

The 41-year-old man was shot several times on Cardiffsbridge Road in Finglas just before midday. Gardai said said the victim was shot once with a handgun as he sat in a car outside a bookmakers and again while trying to escape through a garden.

He was taken to the Mater Hospital where is condition was described as critical but stable.

Two men, both aged 20, were arrested shortly after the shooting. They were held at Blanchardstown and Finglas Garda stations under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.

In a statement today, a Garda spokesman said the man being questioned in Finglas had been freed and a file would be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

“The prisoner at Blanchardstown was released from the provisions of section 30 this morning but remains in custody due an outstanding arrest warrant relating to a separate matter,” the spokesman added.

After yesterday’s shooting, gardaí carried out a number of searches across the city. A van believed to have been used in the attack was seized and taken away for examination.
