A member of a gang which held up Dublin docks security officers and harbour policemen and made off with cigarettes worth £350,000 has been jailed for 7 1/2 years.

Anthony Murphy (48), Beaver Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty to the theft of a container-load of cigarettes and cigars valued at £357,841 at Pandora Shipping Ltd, North Wall, on March 28th, 1997.

Det Sgt Walter O'Connell said Murphy received a phone call from a contact who worked at Pandora Shipping notifying him that the consignment had arrived. In the robbery the gang of armed and masked men held the security staff and harbour policemen captive in a van for up to an hour.
