Galway received a major jobs boost today with the news that a US medical technology company is to expand its operations in the city, creating 400 new jobs.
Medtronic is to build a new R&D and manufacturing centre alongside its existing facility at the Parkmore business park in Galway.
Medtronic already employs 1,300 people in Galway producing medical equipment for the treatment of heart related ailments.
Welcoming the news today, the Tánaiste, Ms Harney said recruitment for some of the new posts had already begun and that construction and fitting of the new buildings was well underway.
The Tánaiste said "This is one of the most important medical devices investments in Ireland and the company’s decision adds to the status of Galway’s existing operations while also increasing its value and role in the global business."
