The funeral of Wicklow shopkeeper John Deasy, who was stabbed to death last week, will take place in Arklow later today.

The funeral of Wicklow shopkeeper John Deasy, who was stabbed to death last week, will take place in Arklow later today.

The 45-year-old father of two will be buried after Requiem Mass at noon in St Gabriel’s Cemetery, Arklow.

The Deasy family said they were “absolutely devastated” by the loss of Mr Deasy who was stabbed outside his shop on Coolgreaney Road.

The family said in a statement they were “trying to come to terms with the fact that he has been taken from us in such terrible circumstances”.

“John was an inspiration to us all. He filled people’s lives with love and laughter and he was a dedicated family man totally devoted to his two daughters, who were always at the centre of his life".

Mr Deasy was stabbed to death when he confronted a man who demanded money from an assistant at Brauders shop shortly after 8pm on Wednesday.
