London - The funeral of the Princess of Wales, which depressed trading and meant many shops closed for all or part of that Saturday, led to the loss of £230 million in retail sales, according to a report published yesterday.
Retail sales grew by just 2.1 per cent between August and September - the lowest since April last year, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) said. But the BRC said even excluding the impact of the funeral, sales grew by 3.4 per cent last month, well below recent long-term trends.
